Candles have long been a favourite for setting the mood and adding warmth to any space. But have you ever created or burnt a multi-wick candle. Elegant, functional, and stylish, these candles are becoming a go-to choice for both avid candle enthusiasts and those just starting to explore the beauty of candlelight. So, what makes multi-wick candles so special? Here’s everything you need to know about this gorgeous candle and why it belongs in your home.

What Are Multi-Wick Candles?

Unlike traditional candles with a single wick, multi-wick candles feature two or more wicks spaced evenly across the surface of the wax. They come in various shapes, sizes, and styles, from round jars with two wicks to wide, shallow bowls with three to five wicks. The addition of multiple wicks isn’t just an aesthetic choice—it also enhances the candle’s functionality, offering benefits that single-wick candles simply can’t match.

1. Improved Scent Throw

One of the standout benefits of multi-wick candles is their superior scent distribution. With more flames burning, the wax pool melts more evenly and quickly, releasing a higher concentration of fragrance into the air. This makes multi-wick candles ideal for filling large spaces with your favourite aroma. Whether you’re relaxing in your living room or hosting a dinner party, a multi-wick candle ensures the scent reaches every corner of the room.

2. More Even Burning

Ever struggled with candles that tunnel down the middle, leaving unused wax around the edges? Multi-wick candles solve this issue by creating a wider, more balanced wax pool. The multiple flames work together to melt the wax evenly, leaving minimal residue behind. This not only maximises the lifespan of your candle but also ensures you get the most out of your purchase.

3. Brighter Glow

More wicks mean more light. Multi-wick candles emit a brighter and more vibrant glow than their single-wick counterparts, making them perfect for creating a warm ambiance. Whether you’re lighting them for a romantic evening, a relaxing bath, or just to add a cosy touch to your home, their soft, multi-point illumination is sure to enhance the atmosphere.

Choosing the Right Multi-Wick Candle

With so many options available, how do you choose the perfect multi-wick candle for your needs? Consider these tips to find the right fit for your space and occasion:

  • Size Matters: For small rooms like a bedroom or bathroom, a two-wick candle is often sufficient. For larger areas like a living room or open-plan space, opt for three or more wicks to ensure the scent and light fill the entire room.
  • Shape and Style: Multi-wick candles come in a variety of shapes, from classic round jars to modern oval or square designs. Choose a style that complements your decor—sleek, minimalist designs are great for contemporary spaces, while decorative containers like ceramic or marble are perfect for adding a touch of luxury.
  • Occasion: For intimate gatherings or quiet evenings, go for candles with warm, soothing scents like vanilla, sandalwood, or amber. For festive occasions, choose bold and lively fragrances like citrus, spices, or floral blends to set the mood.

How to make a Multi-Wick CandleACS Wick Chart

Making a multi wick candle is the same as making a normal candle with the exception of the wicks. As it states in the name a multi wick candle has more than one wick but to get this candle to burn correctly you need to work out what wick size to use dependent on your vessel. To do this you first need to decide how many wicks you want to add to your vessel and the diameter of your vessel. Once you have this you can divide the diameter by the number of wicks and then use the wick chart to work out your wick size.

For example: If you are wanting to double wick a jar that is 100mm wide then you would do the following calculation:

100 / 2 = 50mm

Then look on the ACS wick chart at what wick size is good for a 50mm diameter jar. You will see there are two options an ACS 3.0 and and ACS 3.5. Dependent on the fragrance you are using will depend on what wick you choose but if in doubt upsize, so in this instance I would choose the ACS 3.5 wick.

Elevating Your Home Decor

Multi-wick candles are more than just functional—they’re also a stylish addition to your home decor. Their wide, expansive wax pools and multiple flames make them eye-catching centre pieces. Display them on a coffee table, dining table, or mantlepiece to instantly elevate the look of your space.

For added impact, pair multi-wick candles with complementary decor items. Combine them with lanterns, decorative trays, or natural elements like pebbles and greenery for a balanced, polished look. You can also mix and match candles of different heights and colours for a layered, dynamic display.
